Wings of Hope for Palestinian children
If you’ve wondered why we’ve not updated our news blog for some time, it’s because we’ve been really busy over the past six months. Sadly, peace and stability has not come to the Middle so our plans for CATT training for Palestinians were initially slow to develop. We found ourselves with some spare capacity at the end of 2024, and Trustees decided to expand a training trip to Uganda in February by including a ‘training of trainers’ (ToT) course, a one-day workshop on inter-generational trauma and a meeting with our prospective partner Chance for Childhood. These activities were organised and advertised in double-quick time, and delivered very successfully in February.
But in the meantime, we began to make good progress in consolidating partnerships for work on behalf of Palestinian children. One of our Trustees, Jenny Cuffe, made a visit to Cairo, where there are many Gazan refugee families and organisations needing training to help them recover from trauma. In addition, we succeeded in getting a visa for Ursula Mukarker, the Director of Wings of Hope for Trauma in Bethlehem and she has now travelled to London for CATT training. Together we are working towards ‘hybrid’ CATT training for people treating children in the West Bank next October, and have funded children’s books about psychological trauma to help support children and educate their carers. Our fundraising campaign for work in both Cairo and the West Bank is ongoing and has reached 63% of target. If you are moved by the plight of Palestinian children but at a loss as to how to make an effective donation, please consider helping us because our training has never been more needed and makes a big impact – but we won’t be able to do it unless we hit our target of raising £15,000 by the summer of 2025. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/acti-wings-of-hope
