Hugh Maynard – Goodwill Ambassador

Hugh is delighted to be an Ambassador for Action for Child Trauma International (ACTI).  We are a charity near to his heart and we are thrilled to have this kind, compassionate and remarkably talented musician and actor to support our work.

At just a few weeks old Hugh was abandoned by his mother. He spent the first eight years of his life in and out of residential care. Hugh moved to permanent foster carers aged eight years old, they moved to Torbay, and with the love and support of the family and of a wealth of close and caring friends, Hugh was helped through his formative years until successfully achieving a scholarship to University and Drama School.

Hugh made his West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar playing Simon. Since then, he has appeared in numerous productions including Notre Dame de Paris, Follies, Dancing in the Streets, Sister Act, and as Simba in the Lion King.

He was the youngest person ever to play the part of John in the original touring production of Miss Saigon in 2004. ‘Hugh is absolutely one of the best people who ever played this role.’ – Cameron Mackintosh.  He was delighted to reprise the role of John in Cameron Mackintosh’s 2014 production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre, London.

Hugh has enjoyed success touring the UK, Europe and America singing with the rock group the Tenors of Rock.

Hugh also delivers key note presentations at seminars for professionals working with children & young people, where he uses his own experiences to help participants to consider how to help young people develop resilience in the face of trauma and difficult experiences.

 “Something Inside So Strong”, Hugh’s solo debut Album, has been relaunched under the label Westway Music westwaymusic.com.   The album can be downloaded from most platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. 

Today Hugh lives in Colchester with his wife and son.
